About The Artist

Jazmine Puentes is a Chicana artist born and raised in southeast San Diego, California (occupied Kumeyaay Land). Her body of work interprets the internal development and complexities of self-transformation by painting illustrative stories that narrate her life experiences and upbringing. She instills the influences of cultural beliefs to create dreamy cosmic landscapes integrating all forms of nature representing eternal life. Nature and wildlife are utilized in her paintings to uplift their importance meanwhile building and exploring the relationship to her cultural identity. Their symbolism in her work is also a representation in honoring the land, ancestors, people, and loved ones. Each piece has their own individual meaning or significant message from a personal point of view that capture emotions and highlight an important moment in time. Altogether, her vibrant collection speaks about the internal struggles of grief, the process of healing, celebrating life, and seeing the beauty of how life and death contrast one another.

She currently works in her studio based in Logan Heights where her creativity flows with mixtures of colorful acrylics painting surreal imagery on wood panels. When not working on personal pieces she revisits her roots of musical influences, interests, and other subjects of importance. As well as experimenting with other array of mediums to grow her skills as an artist and apply new techniques to her process. She is still developing as an artist to go beyond greater lengths in following the roots that guide her into discovering what life has to offer through the practice of painting. Her pieces can be viewed amongst different platforms and are exhibited across the states.
